Instructions

Below you will find instructions about each page of the questionnaire. Please print out this document and use it to help you complete the questionnaire. We have indicated what questions apply to the various entry levels in the ENDS Directory.

You may wish to print out a copy of the paper questionnaire (PDF format) to help guide you. Of course, you can always complete this and send it to ENDS and we will update your entry.

Administration page – key information and other links to help you administer your entry

This page shows the type of entry you are taking. If this is not as you have ordered, please e-mail consultants@ends.co.uk. Use this address to contact ENDS with any questions about your entry.

The page also shows who is your nominated administration contact. This can be changed within the questionnaire.

The questionnaire allows you to work on the data in "sessions" before it is posted to the site. This allows you to work on different parts of the questionnaire in stages and to ensure that it is all correct before it is posted to the live web site. To start a session, click on the "GO TO QUESTIONNAIRE" link. A session will close only when you submit your entry to the live site. If you return to the questionnaire without previously updating your live entry, then you will return to a session that is already open and then go to the questionnaire.

A list of previous sessions is displayed at the bottom of the page.

The page also contains a link to your entry on the live web site, if you have previously taken one, and to these instructions.

Summary page - links to the various editing sections of the questionnaire.

This page shows the main parts of the questionnaire available for the type of entry you have taken. Click through to "edit" each section. Please complete all sections so that you can get the most out of the type of entry you have taken.

This screen also shows brief details of all your offices (and partnerships if you are taking a Profile III entry). Click through to edit, check and change any details, or "add" to add a new office or partnership.

Please note that when you are within the editing screen you should press "submit" to return back to the Summary page. This will save any changes you have made.

To then return back to the Administration page, press the "back" button towards the bottom of the page.

All Company name – the main name under which you wish to be displayed in the ENDS Directory. Please use upper case for acronyms only. Subsidiaries can be represented under the "offices" section.
All Previous name – if this has changed recently. This is not published, but is used by ENDS to help us understand changes in the sector and link any new data with old data.
All Year consultancy started – please state the year in which you first started practicing environmental consultancy. This may be the date your organisation was founded, or when a separate division/operation was set up within your organisation to market environmental consultancy services.
All Web address – please exclude the "http://" component of your URL.
Profile I, II & III Parent company– if owned by another organisation. Please state all parent companies if your organisation has a joint ownership.
Profile I, II & III Main business of parent – what business sector(s) does your parent company operate in
Profile I, II & III Statement (maximum of 60 words) – please use this space to describe in free text what your consultancy offers. You may wish to use this space to highlight any features that are unique about your consultancy, or any services that are not represented elsewhere within the questionnaire. Please no not make any absolute claims such as "the largest", "the leading" or "the premier". ENDS cannot substantiate any such claims, and will edit the text accordingly. We will also check and alter the text for spelling, grammatical errors and style.
All Logo Tick this box if you intend to provide a logo for your listing in the printed directory. We will contact you about this before going to press.
Offices – contact details of all your offices
Type of entry Question
All Organisation name – often this is the same as the main head office, but you can use this to display the details of any other operations in your company structure. Please list those branches that practice environmental consultancy only, or other services closely associated with environmental consultancy. For overseas branches, you may wish to list just the main branch in that country, rather than all branches.
All Status – here you state how this office is linked via ownership to the main head office. It may be the head office itself, a branch, subsidiary, parent or sister company. Please also state who is the main contact for dealing with your entry in the ENDS Directory. Tick the "admin contact" box.
Profile I, II & III Special services provided at this location (optional) – this free text box gives you the opportunity to explain what operations are run out of this office. For example, this may be where the "contaminated land division" is housed
All Address and other contact information – type in your normal contact details. You will need to chose a "region" if it's a UK address, or country if not from the pull-down lists.
Core details – main statistics and other details about your organisation
Type of entry Question
All

Turnover – please type in an exact figure and choose a band for the most recent 12 month period where you have these figures. "UK Group turnover" should include work that is not environmental consultancy. The other two questions should only include income from environmental consultancy work.

These three figures are used to show and compute how much proportion of your work is in environmental consultancy in the UK, and the split between your UK and overseas environmental consultancy work. If you are a dedicated environmental consultancy conducting UK work only, all three figures should be the same.

The "UK environmental consultancy" turnover figure is a central part of your entry in that it is a key criteria available to the search, and it is graphically exposed in search results and in your entry. Please give an accurate figure here. We represent the turnover graphically according to the following scale:

£ <£1 million
££ £1million - £5 million
£££ £5 million - £20 million
££££ £20 million - £40 million
£££££ >£40 million

If you have applied for the "small consultancy" discount, your UK environmental turnover must be <£1 million and will be shown as such.

All Staff – as with turnover, we ask for three separate figures: UK group, UK environmental, and global environmental. For a dedicated environmental consultancy operating in the UK only, all three figures should be the same. Please do not include staff that do not spend a significant proportion of their time on environmental consultancy projects. Please do not include freelancers or other retained staff.
Profile I, II & III Contracts – here we are interested in UK and global (including UK) environmental consultancy contracts. Please do not include non-environmental consultancy contracts in this figure.

We recognise that contracts vary in value tremendously and will advise users of this web site appropriately.

Profile I, II & III Membership, accreditation and PIC – please tick the box as appropriate. We recognise that the question on whether you are "accredited to certify under EMAS or IS014001" will not apply to your environmental consultancy operations, rather a distinct part of your business.
Profile I, II & III Global experience – if you have recent global experience in any of these regions, please tick the box. Again, only environmental consultancy projects.
Work overview – what services you offer and in what client sectors
Type of entry Question
All Services offered – this is a central part to your entry. You will need to complete this section if you want to be included in the searches, and if you want to show you are active in a particular work area. Please estimate the proportion of your work across the 14 categories so that the total adds up to 100%. These figures will generate a chart on the home page of your web site entry which will enable users to see at a glance where your strengths lie. Please see the Help menu above for ENDS' consultancy work area definitions.
All Clients served – as with the above this is a central part to your entry. You will need to complete this section if you want to be included in the searches, and if you want to show you are active within a particular client group. Please estimate the proportion of your work across the 14 categories so that the total adds up to 100%. These figures will generate a chart on the home page of your web site entry which will enable users to see at a glance where your strengths lie.
Profile I, II & III Work area matrix – This forms the basis of the "experience matrix" published in the paper version of the directory. It allows users to see whether you have completed a certain type of work within a particular client sector. Please tick the appropriate boxes to show your experiences in detail. Please note that you will only be able to tick rows and columns which are represented in your main work overview page
Profile III Work area descriptions – For those entrants taking the top profile level, here we give you the opportunity to expand on what type of work you perform in the work areas in which you are active. These are a free text field (seeded with keywords if you took such an entry in previous versions of the directory). Please use this space to explain concisely what you do within each work area. You will be limited to 350 words across all the work area descriptions. You may wish to use more of this allocation within certain categories than others, giving more emphasis to your major services or new services you wish to promote.
Classified section descriptions– your listing in the services section of the directory
Type of entry Question
Profile I, II & III Depending on your entry type, you are entitled to one or more listings in the classified services section of the directory. Click Add and select a work area from the drop down menu, then enter up to 50 words describing your services.
