Environmental Due Diligence (EDD) is an increasingly important part of the corporate due diligence process. Environmental liabilities can be large and hidden, and there are many examples of purchasers and funders being hit with unforeseen costs. Unrecognised liabilities relating to land or water contamination, or impending permitting requirements, can cost purchasers and lenders dear and, in a worst-case scenario, they can result in criminal penalties for directors.
Traditionally, water resource assessments for groundwater abstraction have focused on the impacts at a relatively large or catchment scale. However, ecological concerns are often very local and site specific. Assessments therefore need to combine the broad, catchment-scale approach with a more detailed local understanding. Our combination of strong technical skills with a detailed experience of local scale processes is essential to resolving these issues.
Ground source energy can be a cost effective and low carbon solution for a building’s energy requirement, providing both heating and cooling needs. It can be installed at most locations within the UK but not all. The scale of scheme that can be deployed at a given site will depend upon the site area available and the thermal and hydrogeological properties of the ground beneath the site.
